Digital camera memory cards

Digital camera memory cards keep images as electronic data files. These memory cards do not have unlimited storage space as they are part of such a compact gadget as a digital camera.

Card capacity is measured in MegaBytes, like it is for files stored on your computer. The higher the number of MegaBytes, the more photographs the memory card will stack away. Cards do have speed ratings that show how fast they can store and retrieve data, just as bad only the high-end professional photographic cameras can actually support the fastest cards.

Flash memory cards are small, affordable memory devices, akin to the RAM chips in use inside your computer, except they do not lose the data they store when the power is switched off. As a matter of fact, flash memory need no power at all.

Card-reader add-ons are available for your computer. These devices make possible to read and manipulate the contents of a compact flash card. Card readers plug into your computer via USB or FireWire port and enable you to transfer your files with no need to use your camera’s batteries, or deal with cables. Install the card reader as you would any other USB device and push the card into the reader when you want to transfer the images.

Digital camera memory cards may become corrupted and inoperable. Any traveller’s nightmare is to have his best photos entrapped on one of those corrupt cards, such as a family photo in front of the Fontana de Trevie in Rome, or a shot of the New Year’s fireworks and the London Eye taken from a boat. Besides, flash memory cards can spring a foul case of amnesia if they are removed from a camera or PC when a read and/or write operation is in progress, or when the camera is switched on. There are innumerable ways they may let you down so downloading images to your PC as soon as possible after they have been taken is highly recommendable.
